New Year’s Eve Safety Tips

new-year's-eve-safety-tips

New Year’s Eve is a time for celebration and parties with friends or family. While many intend on bringing in the new year with celebration, the possibility of trouble is far off. While most will do what they can to make New Year’s Eve a wonderful night to remember, others seem to be determined on making the memory a little more tragic by causing trouble or driving drunk. Every year, there are a significant amount of people who drive drunk, which increases the amount of auto accident fatalities more any other time of the year. In fact, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), “on average, over 10,000 people have died each year (2010 to 2014) in drunk-driving crashes” (nhtsa.gov, 2016). Even with these statistics, people still overindulge in alcohol and still get behind the wheel. At One Law Group in Beverly Hills, we’ve seen many forms of legal trouble evolve from the actions one takes on this day. Wrongful Death Lawsuits

“Tis impossible to be sure of anything but Death and Taxes.” This line was penned in 1716 by an English playwright named Christopher Bullock in his short play titled “The Cobbler of Preston.” Several years later, this line was mimicked and even recreated by other authors and even mentioned in a letter that President Benjamin Franklin authored in 1789. The unfortunate truth of this line is that death is certain. However, if that death was caused by the fault of another person or company, in today’s legal system, there are measures that can be taken that can provide compensation for those left behind after the death of a loved one. This is what we call a wrongful death lawsuit. At One Law Group in Beverly Hills, we understand the complexities of filing a wrongful death lawsuit, and our attorneys are fully experienced to handle your claim with confidence and accuracy. If you’ve lost a loved one because of the recklessness or negligence of another person or company, you may be entitled to compensation. New Year, New Goals: Hello, 2017!

The year is nearly over—again. If you’re like most of America, then you know that working 8 hours a day all year can make time fly by. Yup, from 8:00AM to 5:00PM every single day of the week for your entire life you are sitting at a desk, behind a computer screen just waiting for the life to pass you by.  What fun is that? Sounds like it’s time to set some new goals for yourself.

Although time moves at the same pace every day, it does not mean that a person’s body or state-of-mind will move at the same pace. In fact, many people life the lot of their lives unhappy with their situations and set unrealistic goals for themselves to try and cure their unhappiness. Unfortunately, when we set goals for ourselves that are unobtainable, we set ourselves up for failure. Keep that in mind as you begin planning for next year.

As the year comes to a close, many people will take some time to reflect on their progress and the goals they set out for themselves that may or may not have been accomplished. This is also the time to set new goals and to think of new ways to succeed. While you are racking your brain on what kind of New Year’s resolution you want to declare to your friends, here are some tips on what many people seem to overlook during their extraordinary New-Year’s-resolution declarations.

Public Transportation Injuries

In the United States, there are approximately 30 million people a day that ride public transportation. People take public transportation for many different reasons including going to and from work, school, home, sporting events, medical treatments, or even just to get from point A to point B regardless of what it is. When a person or company accepts money for transportation, this service is considered a “common carrier,” which include:

It’s DUI Season

Every year, people tend to overindulge in the festivities, and many times the consequences are auto accidents and DUI’s. With the number of drunk drivers on the roads during the holidays, one would suspect that being on the road during this time of year would be a dangerous time. Unfortunately, that would prove to be correct according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which suggests a higher volume of holiday travelers combined with a greater number of drinking and driving incidents has the potential to produce twice as many automotive deaths during the holiday season compared to the rest of the year.

Rainy Weather Means Slippery Surfaces

As the season of rain and cold weather make their way back into our lives, it is important for us all to remember that slippery surfaces are not just at the entrance of a building. They can also exist outside and farther in a building. In fact, a wet or slippery floor away from the entrance can be caused by simply walking through a building. As we walk from the outside into a building, we can even carry wetness with us on the bottom of our shoes. Sometimes, the excess rain continues to fall off our jackets as we move through a building, which can also cause a slippery floor away from the entrance. Unfortunately, a slip and fall injury that is caused by wet surfaces affects 1 in 158 people every year in America, which accounts for over 20,000 people annually, according the National Floor Safety Institute.

Compensation for Sciatic Pain

The sciatic nerve is the largest and longest single running nerve in a person’s body. Starting at the hip, the sciatic nerve is a combination of several nerves that join together to form one large nerve in the lower back, which splits and travels down both legs, ending in the feet. Sciatica can develop from a personal injury caused by work-related injuries, car accidents, assaults, and slip and fall injuries (negligence). Considering all of these forms of personal injury, a person may be entitled to compensation if the other party is the cause of your deliberating sciatic nerve pain. Sciatica is not a good feeling to have based on the amount of pain that it causes and the life-altering experiences it creates.

Personal Injuries from Bus Accidents

Whether a person is taking the bus as part of a daily routine or traveling between cities, people are entrusting the bus driver with their lives. Many buses such as school buses or city buses do not require their passengers to wear seatbelts, which can leave them vulnerable during an auto accident. Although there are fewer bus accidents than car or motorcycle accidents, every year hundreds of people are injured in bus accidents. In fact, from 2004 to 2014, 33 percent of fatal crashes involved buses, according the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (fmcsa.gov, 2016). If you have been injured in a bus accident, it is of the upmost importance that you do not delay. Call the experienced lawyers of One Law Group in Beverly Hills at (844) 626-1LAW. Most federal and state laws consider buses “common carriers.” Essentially, a common carrier is a business that gets paid to transport people or goods from one location to another. Common carriers include all bus types such as tour buses, commercial buses, school buses, and city buses. A common carrier is responsible for the safety of its passengers and products. Successful lawsuits against common carriers are typically based on negligence or intentional acts of...

What is considered wrongful death?

Losing a loved one can be a very traumatic experience. The constant reminder of their demise exists in the remaining bills whether they are from medical expenses or funeral costs. Fortunately, each state has similar laws that allow compensation to be collected in the event of a wrongful death. Different states have their own regulations on the people who may recover damages, but there are laws in place to allow such a recover. Although there may be limitations to the compensation amount a person may recover, there is also a distinction between recovering losses of an estate and a family-member’s right to damages of their passed away relative. How can wrongful death happen? Wrongful death can occur in several ways including a drunk driver auto accident, a negligent surgeon, or an unsafe environment just to name a few possibilities. Generally speaking, wrongful death happens when an individual has no lawful justification for causing the death of another person. Essentially, wrongful death is “a cause of action for the death of a person caused by the wrongful act or neglect of another” that has fatal results to another person. Negligent/Careless Driving It is common for a wrongful death suit to be filed against a person whose...

Slip And Fall Cases: Safety While Shopping

Shopping malls and grocery stores are all supposed to be safe places to visit in order to purchase the items needed to move through life. Unfortunately, these places are not always the places, but that is not always because of how they were designed. Instead, the safety of these places is usually jeopardized by the negligence of an employee or another shopper who did not notify a store employee. Unsafe conditions in shopping malls or grocery stores are typically the bases of a shopping injury case. Here are a few possible causes and outcomes from unsafe conditions in stores or shopping malls: • A person can slip and fall as a result of wet floors, poorly installed flooring, torn carpets, poor lighting, or malfunctioning escalators, elevators, or mechanical walkways. • A person can suffer a head or body injury from falling objects that are not properly placed, displays or signs that are not properly installed, or other random occurrences of negligence. • A person can be injured from a malfunctioning shopping cart that has tipped over and falls on a person while they are near it. • A person can become injured by falling in overcrowded areas of a store or mall. This is considered...
